The huge snowpack of a couple of years ago buckled the bridge across the South Fork of the San Joaquin River, creating a real challenge for those hiking the John Muir Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail.
Those hikers were faced with tough options: go around ( not easy--that's why the built the bridge!) or delicately work across the twisted girders (dangerous, and then impossible when the First Service removed the damaged span.)
Happily, repairing the bridge was a priority, and it is now open to traffic. Here's a link to the story: https://thetrek.co/south-fork-san-joaquin-bridge-fully-replaced-restoring-safe-passage-for-pct-and-jmt-thru-hikers/
